For the second year in a row, Business Communications, Inc,. (BCI) has been named a “Best Places to Work in Mississippi” finalist by the Mississippi Business Journal in partnership with Southern Research Group and The Mississippi Society for Human Resource Management.
BCI and other companies named as finalists in the “Best Places to Work in Mississippi” program are recognized as businesses that benefit their communities through their presence and their contributions to the economic growth of Mississippi. The recognition also includes business places where work is challenging, rewarding and positive and where employees are fully engaged and empowered.
“When you look at our employment philosophy, it’s no wonder we’ve been named a ‘Best Places to Work’ finalist for two consecutive years,” said Tony Bailey, CEO. “We know: ‘There’s more to life than work.’ That six-word sentence drives the human resources philosophy of BCI. We believe that a healthier balance between a person’s professional and personal life is the true cornerstone of both intellectual and emotional growth and success.”
The “Best Places to Work in Mississippi” program, which premiered in 2006, is part of a national trend in recognizing the most unique and best practices used in outstanding workplaces. “The ‘Best Places to Work’ idea is national in scale,” explained Mississippi Business Journal publisher Joe Jones. “We’ve admired the program for several years and decided to bring it to Mississippi.”
Utilizing 60 rating scale questions, consideration was given to employees’ answers related to corporate culture and values, corporate vision and common purpose, communication and cooperation, teamwork, personal job satisfaction, training, learning and development, and performance and recognition.
Numerous independent studies have shown that those workplaces considered by their employees to be a ‘best place to work’ benefit from the following:
A comprehensive review by the Department of Labor concluded that there is a positive relationship between training, motivating and empowering employees and improvements in productivity, employee satisfaction and financial performance.
“We work to attract and keep the best people by paying the best salaries for the industry in our area,” said Bailey. “Just as important, we encourage and underwrite continuing education, giving our people the tools necessary to advance their careers within our company. Everyone who works here is challenged to spend time, on a weekly basis, on their own continuing education.”
“We are proud of our corporate culture,” Bailey continued, “and of the fact that the people who are part of this business are always striving to learn and grow. We believe in being innovative, and our clients have come to expect that from us. When you hire good people, train them, empower them and support them, what you get in return is outstanding.”
“With more than 140 employees in Jackson, Gulfport, Birmingham, Little Rock, Memphis, Mobile, New Orleans and Shreveport, we understand that workforce development is an economic necessity for strengthening business in Mississippi and across the Southeast,” added Bailey.
